What this transaction means for investors

Hollar has done this before: He sold 124,529 shares on Aug. 18 and 19, almost exactly the block that vested three days earlier from restricted stock and performance units, and last August he cleared about $16 million days after the same vest. Despite the $29.4 million headline, his directly held stake sits about where it did a year ago.

Meanwhile, he's selling into a stock that has run hard. Cardinal closed fiscal 2026 with revenue up 14% to $254 billion and $5 billion in adjusted free cash flow, and on Aug. 11 the board tacked another $5 billion onto the buyback authorization. Non-GAAP earnings per share have more than doubled since fiscal 2022, to $11.26 from $5.07, the stretch Hollar had in mind when he told analysts earlier this month the company is "in a very different place."

The soft spot, however, is medical products and distribution, where fiscal 2027 guidance assumes tariff relief cancels out rising diesel and resin costs. CFO Aaron Alt said a drawn-out Iran conflict would push that segment to the bottom of its $200 million to $220 million profit range, and management has already told investors to model first-quarter profit there at about half of last year's.
