Goldman Sachs (GS) & Intel (INTC) Just Backed the Same AI Video Startup

Goldman Sachs (GS) & Intel (INTC) Just Backed the Same AI Video Startup

On August 17, The Financial Times reported that AI video startup Higgsfield raised $400 million at a $5.4 billion valuation from investors. It includes The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (NYSE:GS) and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), as the two-year-old company pushes deeper into corporate marketing subscriptions.

Why This Matters

A Wall Street bank and a chipmaker in the middle of its own turnaround both chose to back the same AI video startup.

That raises the real question: does this shared bet show real conviction in Higgsfield's business, or are two very different companies chasing the same hot trend for very different reasons?

The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (GS) & Intel Corporation (INTC) Just Backed the Same AI Video Startup

Goldman-Backed Higgsfield Hits $5.4B Valuation Amid AI Hypergrowth and Hollywood Backlash

The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (NYSE:GS) invested through its Equity Growth fund, and the firm has estimated the global creator economy could grow from $250 billion in 2023 to $480 billion by 2027. Higgsfield's annualized revenue reached $700 million in August, up from just $20 million a year earlier, and the share of revenue coming from businesses rather than individual creators jumped from under 25% in January to a majority today.

A $5.4 billion valuation for a two-year-old company is a significant bet on continued hypergrowth. Higgsfield's AI-generated marketing videos face real competitive and reputational risk given the technology has already "unsettled" parts of Hollywood over its effect on creative jobs.

Intel Backs $5.4B Higgsfield to Expand AI Stack Presence Beyond Hardware

Backing Higgsfield gives Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) exposure to a fast-growing AI application layer beyond its core chip business. It is diversifying its AI-related bets at a time when Intel wants to show relevance across the AI stack, not just as a hardware supplier.

Intel just raised $20 billion specifically to fund its own core semiconductor turnaround. Putting money into an unrelated AI video startup, even a fast-growing one, is a distraction from the capital-intensive turnaround Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC)'s own shareholders care about most.

Insider Monkey's Hedge Fund Data

The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (NYSE:GS) was held by 83 hedge funds as of Q1 2026, up from 78. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) was held by 112, up from 96.

Conclusion

Higgsfield's growth numbers are real. However, Goldman and Intel are backing it for very different strategic reasons, one purely financial, the other more about staying visible across the AI stack.

While we acknowledge the potential of GS as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk.
