Equinor Board Member to Step Down in September

Equinor ASA said Finn Bjørn Ruyter will leave the company's board of directors on September 1, a relatively swift departure after he was re-elected to the board earlier this summer.
Ruyter has decided to focus on his responsibilities as chief executive of Norwegian utility Hafslund as well as his other board positions, Equinor said. The company did not immediately announce a replacement.
The departure comes less than three months after Equinor's corporate assembly re-elected Ruyter as a shareholder representative on June 8. That term took effect July 1 and had been scheduled to run until the company's next ordinary board election in June 2027.
Ruyter currently also chairs Equinor's Board Safety, Security, Sustainability and Ethics Committee, giving his departure additional relevance for the company's governance structure.
Ruyter has served as CEO of Hafslund since 2012, after previously holding senior roles in the company and working in power and energy businesses at Elkem and Norsk Hydro. Hafslund describes itself as Norway's second-largest hydropower producer and the country's largest district-heating producer.
The board change follows a broader leadership transition at Equinor this year. Jarle Roth became chairman on July 1, replacing longtime chair Jon Erik Reinhardsen, while Anne Drinkwater remained deputy chair.
For investors, Ruyter's exit does not signal any announced change to Equinor's operating or capital strategy, but it leaves the Norwegian energy major with another board vacancy shortly after its annual governance reshuffle.
