NuScale Power Is Launching AI Tools for Nuclear Power. How to Play SMR Stock Here.

Nuclear technology company specializing in small modular reactor (SMR) systems, NuScale Power Corporation (SMR), announced the deployment of nuclear-specific artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support its engineering and knowledge-management functions. This combines its advanced nuclear expertise, Nuclearn's AtomAssist nuclear AI platform, and NPX's nuclear project and AI implementation experience.

The company aims to advance its SMR technology through this move. In an initial proof of concept, NuScale found that designed-for-nuclear AI terminology and workflows could reduce the time required to find relevant information by as much as 80% while surfacing the most relevant engineering methods and standards.

NuScale remains the only SMR company to have received design certification from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, which positions it favorably. Moreover, it has assembled a network of more than 60 specialized suppliers, with specific expertise. On the other hand, the company's operations are not commercialized at significant scale, and revenue declined in its last reported quarter. Therefore, NuScale might be observed for now.

About NuScale Stock

NuScale Power is an advanced nuclear technology company that designs, licenses, and commercializes SMR systems for electricity, heat, and clean water. Headquartered in Corvallis, Oregon, the company focuses on engineering, regulatory licensing, supplier and fuel arrangements, and project delivery services for utilities and industrial customers, including data centers.

NuScale develops its VOYGR power plants around the 77‑MWe NuScale Power Module, a light‑water SMR with passive safety features. It is transitioning from R&D toward commercial deployment as demand grows for reliable, carbon‑free baseload power. The company has a market capitalization of $3.98 billion.

Amid broader pre-commercial nuclear volatility, NuScale's stock has declined 72.24% over the past 52 weeks and is down 31.12% year-to-date (YTD). It had reached a 52-week low of $7.21 on July 17, but is up 34.5% from that level. NuScale's stock is down sharply during the past year because revenue has collapsed as key engineering work on the Romanian RoPower project ended in late 2025 with no comparable replacement, leaving the company with minimal near‑term income.

Its forward-adjusted price-to-sales ratio of 153.57 times is considerably stretched compared to the industry average of 1.87 times.

NuScale Reports Second-Quarter Results Amid Project Transitions

Rather than signaling rampant commercialization, NuScale's second-quarter results highlighted its strategic steps. Firstly, ENTRA1 Energy, the company's global strategic partner, is reportedly working hard on a definitive power purchase agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). This could be a huge tailwind as this potential 6-8 gigawatt deployment could be the largest nuclear power deployment program in U.S. history.

Moreover, NuScale is working with S.N. Nuclearelectrica S.A.and RoPower Nuclear to fulfill the conditions tied to Nuclearelectrica shareholders' approval to move the RoPower project forward in Doicești, Romania, where six NuScale Power Modules would be installed at a decommissioned coal site, marking Europe's most advanced small modular reactor initiative.

Notably, NuScale completed the Fluor front-end engineering design Phase 2 work in support of the RoPower project in late 2025. This led to a dramatic drop in its revenue from $8.05 million in Q2 2025 to $75,000 in Q2 2026, as there was no comparable activity.

The company is also working on its supply chain readiness. It awarded Paragon, a leading supplier of safety-related products, a contract to complete final design development of the Highly Integrated Protection System (HIPS) for the NPM. NuScale also opened its 12th Energy Exploration (E2) Center globally at the University of Virginia's College at Wise.

NuScale ended the second quarter with $1.89 billion in cash & cash equivalents, as well as short- and long-term investments. However, issuance of common stock had a major impact on its cash reserves.

For the current year, NuScale is expected to report a $0.64 loss per share, indicating a 70.5% year-over-year (YOY) improvement. However, next year, its loss per share is projected to climb by 37.5% YOY to an $0.88 loss.

What Do Analysts Think About NuScale's Stock?

Recently, analysts at B.Riley Securities lowered the price target on NuScale's stock from $19 to $15, while maintaining a "Buy" rating. While B.Riley analysts said advancing the TVA agreement remains key to sentiment, they also cited an increased share count and a valuation reset across the sector as reasons for the adjustment.

NuScale's stock still finds favor on Wall Street, with analysts awarding it a consensus "Moderate Buy" rating. Of the 18 analysts rating the stock, six analysts have given it a "Strong Buy" rating, while 10 analysts took the middle-of-the-road approach with a "Hold" rating, and two analysts suggested a "Strong Sell." The consensus price target of $13.53 represents a 39.2% upside from current levels. Moreover, the Street-high price target of $25 reflects a 157% upside.
