Walmart plans $1.3bn Georgia fulfilment centre with 1,000 jobs

Walmart plans to build a new automated fulfilment centre in Carnesville, Georgia, US, in a move set to bring $1.3bn in investment to Franklin County.

The project is expected to create 1,000 jobs.

The 1.5 million-square-foot facility will be located at the Franklin 85 Logistics Center in Carnesville.

Walmart's fulfilment centres are placed in strategic markets to support same-day and next-day shipping across the US.

Construction on the site is scheduled to start later this year.

Commenting on the decision, Georgia governor Brian Kemp said: "This massive investment from Walmart in a rural part of our state will not only create new, good-paying jobs for hardworking Georgians, it will also allow them to work close to home rather than commuting to a larger city for work.

"Every Georgian should have opportunity, no matter their zipcode, and Walmart is helping us deliver on that promise."

In Georgia, Walmart operates 209 Walmart stores and Sam's Clubs, along with 11 supply chain sites, employing more than 65,300 associates statewide.

The company also has a sizeable supplier network in the state, spending more than $26.2bn with suppliers in the state and supporting over 167,600 supplier jobs during fiscal year 2025.

Walmart US supply chain senior vice-president Karisa Sprague said: "As customer expectations continue to evolve, investments like our new fulfilment centre in Carnesville help us deliver the speed, convenience, and reliability customers count on.

"We're excited to join the Carnesville community and create meaningful career opportunities where associates can grow and build their future with Walmart."

Recently, Walmart reported second quarter results for the period ended 31 July 2026, with net sales rising 5.9% to $186.10bn.

The US retail giant has also raised its fiscal 2027 guidance. During the period under review, its operating income increased 28.8% to $9.38bn, or 17.4% on an adjusted constant-currency basis.

In June, Walmart rolled out its 30-minute-or-less delivery service across 33 US markets, giving customers in those areas access to groceries, pharmacy products and household essentials within half an hour of placing an order.
