The silver price is moving up slightly this morning, reaching $59.38 as of 8:17 a.m. ET.
As it tends to do, silver prices are following gold's price movements this week. The opening price of silver has been lower each day so far this week, hitting a new weekly low this morning as the U.S. and Iran exchange military strikes, all but eliminating their fragile ceasefire.
The renewed hostilities have sent oil prices (BZ=F) higher ahead of the Fed's next meeting at the end of this month. If these latest airstrikes grind traffic to a halt in the Strait of Hormuz for an extended period, inflation concerns will be reignited just ahead of the Fed's next rate-setting meeting. Elevated interest rates only put downward pressure on silver prices.
