Stocks slip as 10-year Treasury yield hits highest level since January 2025: AlphaCheck

Good morning. Stocks slipped in early trading on Tuesday as long-dated bond yields rose and speculation of a rate hike this year grew.
Oil prices (CL=F) jumped after President Trump vowed to hit Iran "hard," stoking fears that above-target inflation will follow on the heels of a strong earnings season and prompt Federal Reserve officials to tighten monetary policy.
The 10-year Treasury (^TNX) yield hit its highest level since January 2025.
Here's a check of the markets in the first few minutes of trading on the first trading day of September, based on a heat map powered by Yahoo Finance AlphaSpace data.
Though September is historically the weakest month for stocks, software enters it on the heels of recent momentum, while much of the physical AI trade appears to be on the defensive.
Tech (XLK) stocks declined on Tuesday, with semiconductors leading the drop as AI chip heavyweight Nvidia (NVDA) fell. The Energy sector (XLE) extended gains from the prior session as shares of Chevron (CVX) Exxon (XOM) rose.
This afternoon, investors will get another read of the AI trade as Dell (DELL) and Palo Alto Networks (PANW) report after the bell.
