ChargePoint shares surge after narrower quarterly loss

ChargePoint Holdings (NYSE:CHPT) shares surged 53% Thursday after the electric-vehicle charging company reported second-quarter results that beat Wall Street estimates and posted a smaller-than-expected loss.
Revenue for the quarter came in at $116.1 million, up 18% year-over-year and ahead of analyst estimates of $105 million.
Non-GAAP adjusted EBITDA loss narrowed to $4.8 million, an improvement of 78% from a year earlier and well ahead of the $16.4 million loss analysts had forecast. Non-GAAP gross margin rose 500 basis points year-over-year to 38%.
For the third quarter, ChargePoint guided revenue in a range of $105 million to $115 million, versus analyst estimates of $109 million.
By segment, net revenue from Networked Charging Systems rose 25% year-over-year to $62.9 million, while Subscription revenue increased 10% to $43.7 million.
GAAP gross margin came in at 36%, also up 500 basis points from a year earlier. Non-GAAP net loss was $9.2 million, down 72% year-over-year, while the GAAP net loss narrowed 46% to $35.6 million. The company held $95.7 million in cash, cash equivalents and restricted cash at quarter-end.
ChargePoint also named John Saffrett as executive vice president and managing director for Europe, and said early access shipments of its Express Solo product have begun.
