Cerebras Systems (CBRS) is making another critical infrastructure move. The chip manufacturer has teamed up with Compute Nordic Finland to build an AI data center in Mikkeli, Finland, which is supposed to reach 165 megawatts of contracted IT capacity. The construction of the initial 50 MW stage is already underway, while service orders are backed by seven-year contracts.

The timing is crucial. Cerebras is moving past mere demonstration that the demand exists for its unique AI architecture. Now, the task of the company is to secure the necessary power, manufacturing capacity, and data-center infrastructure to meet such demand. After its OpenAI agreement with 750 MW of computing capacity and $25.4 billion of remaining performance obligations (RPO), the Finland data-center initiative is yet another part of the buildout. Nevertheless, in light of the steep valuation of CBRS stock, Cerebras investors have to deal with extraordinary growth and equally extraordinary expectations.

About Cerebras Systems Stock

Headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, Cerebras designs AI computing infrastructure based on its Wafer-Scale Engine (WSE) architecture. The company's systems are used for AI training as well as increasingly for inference workloads delivered through hardware and cloud services alike. Cerebras currently has a market capitalization of around $43.8 billion.

CBRS stock closed on Sept. 1 at $172.62 per share, losing 6.3% during the day, although shares climbed nearly 7% in the following session. More importantly, the stock has declined roughly 51% since its 52-week high of $386.34 and stands 18% above its 52-week low of $160.81. That is a sharp decline for a relatively young AI infrastructure stock. At the same time, the S&P 500 Index ($SPX) has gained 13% so far this year, underlining the huge underperformance of Cerebras.

The correction has cut down the valuation, yet it certainly has not turned CBRS into a cheap stock. Shares trade at about 61.8 times sales, while the company does not yet have a relevant forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio. This valuation suggests that investors have already put a lot of expectations into the company's growth. From my point of view, this means that capacity execution is particularly crucial. With such a multiple, the company will need both demand and conversion of contracted infrastructure and RPO into rapid revenue scaling.

Cerebras Beats Estimates in Q2

Cerebras announced its second-quarter results on Aug. 12, with GAAP revenue hitting $180.1 million, up 74% year-over-year (YOY). However, more impressive was core revenue growth of 103% YOY to $209.9 million. The biggest contributor was cloud and other services; GAAP revenue grew 282% to $125.9 million while core cloud revenue increased 287% YOY to $127.7 million.

Management also upgraded its full-year forecast. Cerebras now expects its 2026 core revenue to reach $880 million to $890 million, compared to its previous estimate of $855 million to $865 million. For Q3, the company sees core revenue somewhere between $214 million and $216 million, slightly beating the analyst estimate of approximately $212 million. The company also raised its guidance for full-year core gross margin to 41% to 43%.

However, the most important figures could well appear outside of the income statement. Cerebras has reached $25.4 billion of RPO and said that more than 600 MW of data-center capacity has already become operational or is contracted for delivery by the end of 2027. At the same time, manufacturing capacity is supposed to grow more than tenfold in 2026.

This makes the new 165 MW Finland project especially interesting. The company appears to be building physical capacity to convert its backlog into revenue rather than keep its demand story on paper. With the first 50 MW already under construction and seven-year service orders providing long-term visibility, the ability of Cerebras to avoid HBM, CoWoS packaging, and 3-nanometer fabrication limitations could become especially valuable as the company tries to scale.

What Do Analysts Expect From Cerebras Stock?

Despite the recent decline, Wall Street remains optimistic about CBRS stock with a consensus "Strong Buy" rating. Recent analyst actions have also been rather positive, with UBS maintaining a $330 target and Morgan Stanley upgrading its target to $279 from $273. The average price target of $283.91 suggests potential upside of approximately 49% from current levels. Meanwhile, the high target of $330 represents potential upside of about 73%, while even the lowest target of $209 implies a 10% possible gain from here.

Overall, Cerebras' recent Finland data-center news serves as additional proof of the infrastructure story, but it does not change the valuation risks. The company now has more contracted capacity to support its rapid expansion, while its $25.4 billion RPO brings substantial demand visibility. If Cerebras manages to convert its infrastructure into revenue growth like management expects, then the decline of its stock could prove to be excessive. At a sales multiple of nearly 62 times, however, execution will need to be exceptional.
