Snowflake (SNOW)’s AI Flywheel Transitions into a Growth Engine

Snowflake Inc. (NYSE:SNOW) continues to demonstrate that enterprise AI adoption is capable of expanding rather than disrupting its data-platform opportunity. Q2 2027 product revenue ramped up 37% YoY to reach $1.49 billion. This demonstrates its 3rd consecutive quarter of growth acceleration, with total revenue increasing 35% to $1.55 billion. With stronger momentum, the company raised FY 2027 product-revenue growth guidance to 36% from 31%.

The most appealing part is AI adoption. CoCo crossed 9,100 accounts after the addition of over 2,000 in Q2 2027, with CoWork reaching 5,800 accounts. This has created a flywheel: companies bring more data into Snowflake, deploy AI applications on that data, and drive additional platform consumption.

Furthermore, healthy 126% net revenue retention as well as $9 billion of RPO, demonstrating an increase of 30% YoY, highlight that the expansion continues to translate into broader customer spending.

Platform Expansion Provides an Edge

Snowflake Inc. (NYSE:SNOW) added 692 net new customers, reflecting an increase of 32% YoY, with customers generating over $1 million in TTM product revenue rising by 27% to 828. The combination of customer additions and deeper enterprise penetration remains critical.

The competitive landscape continues to evolve. MongoDB, Inc. (NASDAQ:MDB) is a strong peer in the broader cloud databases and application infrastructure. The company's Q2 revenue went up by 30% YoY. That being said, Snowflake's total revenue growth of 35% exceeded MongoDB's total revenue growth of 30%. Snowflake's product revenue grew 37%, while MongoDB's subscription revenue increased 31%.

However, the competition revolves around which platform will be able to tap more of the growing enterprise data-and-AI spend.

Short Interest and Hedge Funds Data

Short interest suggests skepticism around Snowflake, with 5.56% of its float sold short. This compares to 3.62% for MongoDB, Inc. (NASDAQ:MDB).

As per Insider Monkey's data, 103 hedge funds were long on Snowflake Inc. (NYSE:SNOW)'s stock at the end of Q2 2026, compared to 80 funds at the end of Q1 2026.

Jefferies Remains Optimistic; Expects AI-Driven Re-Rating

Jefferies analyst Brent Thill lifted the price objective on the company's stock to $430 from $385, while maintaining a "Buy" rating. This comes after the Q2 beat. The analyst noted CoCo's rapid account growth and the management's belief that the product is among the company's easiest offerings to sell. Notably, the thesis revolves around the fact that accelerating AI adoption might aid faster revenue growth and a further valuation re-rating.

This is backed by improvement in operating leverage, with FY 2027 non-GAAP operating-margin guidance rising to 14.5% from 13.5% and adjusted FCF margin expected to be 23%.

AI Monetization Can Fuel Upside

The upside case is dependent on Snowflake Inc. (NYSE:SNOW) maintaining strong growth, with AI expanding consumption throughout the platform. The company's management anticipates FY 2027 product revenue to touch $6.07 billion, with its Chief Executive stating that AI contributed around half of the current growth acceleration.

If CoCo, CoWork and other AI workloads continue to fuel the incremental consumption, product-revenue growth can remain above the company's expectations. This could create room for guidance increases.

Can AI Monetization Meet the Expectations?

Bears say expectations have been rising rapidly. Snowflake Inc. (NYSE:SNOW) should convert this rapid CoCo and CoWork adoption into consumption and incremental revenue, while competing with several other cloud-data platforms. AI workloads may hurt profitability, and FY 2027 non-GAAP product gross margin guidance stood at 74%, down from 75%.

There can be significant valuation pressure if the AI adoption doesn't succeed in translating to continued consumption growth.

Conclusion

The company's recent results make the thesis stronger that AI might ramp up its core data-platform business. Increased product growth, robust retention, rapid AI adoption, as well as improved operating-margin outlook offer a strong setup. If AI workloads fuel the incremental consumption, the company might deliver robust earnings growth and further multiple expansion.
