Continued back-and-forth attacks between the U.S. and Iran have launched oil prices (BZ=F) back near $100 a barrel, heightening inflation concerns just one week before the Fed's upcoming rate-setting meeting starting on September 15.
The opening price of silver today is down from Friday's opening price, but generally in line with silver's opening prices from last week.
Investors and the FOMC committee will get their final look at the latest available inflation data at the end of this week. Currently, there's about a 60% chance the Fed will raise rates next Wednesday. Higher rates are a natural headwind for precious metal prices.
