Anthropic ends talks on potential $6bn acquisition of Decart AI

Anthropic has decided not to proceed with the acquisition of frontier AI lab Decart AI, reported Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter.

The potential deal, which would have valued Decart AI at around $6bn, was reportedly under discussion last month, but has not moved forward.

Individuals with knowledge of the negotiations said Anthropic had conducted due diligence on Decart AI before ultimately walking away.

They indicated that, while an acquisition is no longer being considered, the two companies might explore other forms of collaboration in the future.

The proposed acquisition would have represented a rare large-scale purchase for Anthropic, the US-based developer of the Claude chatbot.

Decart AI focuses on developing 'world models', which are simulations of the physical world.

The company also produces software intended to improve the efficiency of hardware and reduce the costs associated with training AI systems.

Its product portfolio includes the Lucy AI model, which is designed to transform live video feeds into detailed, real-time representations of people.

Founded in 2023 by Dean Leitersdorf, Orian Leitersdorf, and Moshe Shalev, all engineers originally from Israel, Decart AI has attracted investment from a range of technology and venture capital firms.

In May, the company revealed it had raised $300m in a funding round led by Radical Ventures and co-founder Jordan Jacobs.

Other participants included Nvidia, Valor Equity Partners, Atreides Management, Sequoia Capital, Benchmark, Adobe Ventures, and Zeev Ventures.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the round valued Decart AI at nearly $4bn, an increase from $3.1bn in August 2025.

Anthropic has focused on expanding its computing capabilities to support new product development and customer service, reportedly ahead of a planned Wall Street listing. The company is targeting an initial public offering potentially as large as SpaceX's.
