Torrent Green Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Torrent Power, has commissioned 322MW-peak (MWp) of decentralised, ground-mounted solar power projects in Nashik, Maharashtra, India.

The installations span 50 locations across 14 talukas, or local administrative divisions, in Nashik, making the project one of the largest agricultural feeder solarisation initiatives under the Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana (MSKVY) 2.0 scheme.

The initiative was commissioned under MSKVY and aligns with Component C of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan initiative, which focuses on feeder-level solarisation.

Under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA), the plants will supply electricity to the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL).

The solar plants are designed to deliver daytime power directly to agricultural demand centres in rural areas, improving grid efficiency and reducing distribution losses.

The development involved coordination across multiple sites, overcoming land issues, establishing grid connectivity, obtaining local clearances, and managing engineering and construction activities simultaneously.

Torrent Power whole-time director Jigish Mehta said: "The project stands as a testimony to the collaborative efforts of MSEDCL, local administration, landowners, project partners, contractors and the dedicated team of Torrent.

"This milestone reinforces Torrent's commitment to supporting India's clean energy transition while empowering the agricultural sector with reliable and sustainable daytime electricity supply."

Torrent Power, part of the $5.18bn (Rs490bn) Torrent Group, is a vertically integrated utility with operations in power generation, transmission and distribution.

Its total operational generation capacity stands at 6.66GW-peak (GWp), which comprises 2.73GW of gas-based, 2.2GWp of renewable and 1.73GW of coal-based capacity.

Projects under construction include approximately 4.56GWp of renewables, 3GW of pumped storage and 1.6GW of coal-based capacity. Including these projects, the company's total capacity reaches 12.82GWp, plus 3GW of pumped storage.

Last month, the Suzlon Group secured a 250MW wind project order from Torrent Green Energy, expanding their partnership beyond 1.3GW.
