NVDA went customer zero on the joint PLTR AI stack, deploying it against Vera Rubin's 1.3 million parts per rack amid constraints through 2028.

PLTR's 155% Rule of 40 is elite, but open Nemotron weights let rivals copy its ontology stack while a P/E of 240 leaves no margin.

NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) and Palantir (NASDAQ:PLTR) unveiled a jointly developed sovereign AI stack aimed squarely at the industrial supply chain, with NVIDIA becoming customer zero. The system pairs NVIDIA's open Nemotron models and cuOpt optimization software with Palantir Foundry, AIP, and the Palantir Ontology to coordinate materials allocation from wafer to first token. The scope is enormous: a single Vera Rubin rack contains 1.3 million parts sourced from thousands of suppliers, and NVIDIA is deploying the stack against its own bill of materials. Wall Street responded with a shrug in the premarket, with NVDA off 1.35% and PLTR down 1.88% heading into the open, per Barron's.
NVIDIA Turns Its Own Supply Chain Into the Reference Customer
NVIDIA sits at the top of the AI compute stack, and the Vera Rubin ramp is now the most complex logistics problem in semiconductors. CFO Colette Kress and CEO Jensen Huang told investors on the fiscal Q2 2027 call that Vera Rubin shipments began earlier in August 2026 with purchase orders from every major hyperscaler, AI cloud, and system OEM, and that the platform is expected to represent about 20% of data center revenue in Q3. Vera Rubin also raises the revenue opportunity per gigawatt of AI capacity to $40 billion, up from $25 billion on Blackwell.

The bull case is that Palantir's Ontology and NVIDIA's cuOpt give NVIDIA a live control plane over the very bottleneck Huang keeps flagging. On the earnings call he said, "Our entire supply chain is challenged" and "Everybody is really running flat out." With supply constraints extending through at least the end of fiscal year 2028, wringing yield out of memory, wafer, cooling, and construction inputs feeds straight into a company that grew data center revenue to $89.02B, up 117% YoY, and guided Q3 revenue to $108.0B ±2%. NVDA carries a market cap of roughly $5.40 trillion at a P/E of 45, and shares are up 18.45% year to date.
The risk is that the same memory tightness the tool is meant to manage is compressing margins. Kress guided non-GAAP gross margin to 71% to 72% in Q4 on "extreme pricing conditions in memory," and NVIDIA has $279.0B in supply obligations tied largely to memory procurement for Vera Rubin. Software cannot conjure HBM.
Palantir Gets the Anchor Deployment It Has Been Selling
Palantir's role is the application and control layer. According to the joint announcement, the stack uses Palantir Foundry, AIP, and the Palantir Ontology to identify constraints, codify operational expertise, and guide materials allocation, with customization of Nemotron models on proprietary data and deployment either on-premises with Cisco and Dell or in the cloud with Rackspace and Nebius. It is grounded in the Palantir Sovereign AI Operating System Reference Architecture (SAIOS) and will be showcased at Palantir's AIPCon 11 conference.
The bull case is that Palantir's commercial engine is already running hot and this validates the sovereign AI pitch with the most prestigious logo in AI. CEO Alex Karp told investors on the Q2 2026 call, "We built a partnership with NVIDIA. We're expanding our application layer," and CTO Shyam Sankar said that "Within 24 hours of bringing Nemotron Ultra into our stacks, we found five production tasks where a standard Nemotron Ultra model without post-training beat Frontier models." Palantir posted Q2 revenue of $1.935B, up 92.8% YoY, with U.S. commercial revenue of $764M, up 149% YoY, and raised full-year revenue guidance to $8.150 to $8.158B. Net dollar retention hit 157% and the company printed a Rule of 40 score of 155%.
The risk is valuation and concentration. PLTR trades at a P/E near 240 on a market cap of roughly $390.0B, shares are down 6.41% year to date, and Palantir itself flags heavy stock-based comp, long sales cycles, termination-for-convenience clauses, and U.S. revenue concentration. The company also disclosed $265M in stock-based comp in Q2. A high-profile reference deployment is not a moat if peers ship comparable ontology tooling on the same open Nemotron weights.
What to Watch Next
NVIDIA using its own Vera Rubin production line as the pilot gives this partnership something most AI announcements lack: a measurable KPI in the form of shipped racks. If cuOpt and AIP can loosen a single node in a supply chain Huang describes as constrained through the end of fiscal year 2028, the payoff shows up directly in NVIDIA's revenue line and indirectly in every Palantir manufacturing, energy, healthcare, automotive, and aerospace pipeline. The tell will be customer conversions coming out of AIPCon 11 and whether NVIDIA quantifies cycle-time or yield gains on its next earnings call.
