JPMorgan analyst Doug Anmuth believes Meta Platforms' (META) aggressive push into artificial intelligence (AI) could drive its share price higher in the months ahead. In a research note this morning, Anmuth upgraded META to "Overweight" and raised his price target to $820, indicating potential upside of more than 25% from here.

Note that Meta stock has shown muted performance in 2026, currently trading at roughly the same price at which it started this year.

Why Did JPMorgan Upgrade Meta Stock?

Anmuth upgraded META shares primarily because of the giant's tangible progress in monetizing artificial intelligence.

Investors previously expressed skepticism over Meta Platforms' massive infrastructure outlays, but the launch and adoption of its consumer AI assistant, Muse, which quickly climbed into the top three U.S. app store rankings, is turning sentiment.

Together with the expansion of the Meta Model API, the JPMorgan analyst believes the behemoth is moving past early experimental stages into meaningful commercialization.

These frontier models unlock high-margin, diversified revenue streams outside Meta's core digital ad network, justifying a higher earnings multiple as AI transitions from a cost center into a growth engine.

META Shares Are Trading at a Discount

Meta shares have been rather dull in 2026 mostly because of the firm's raised 2026 capex guidance ($125 billion to $145 billion).

However, Anmuth argues that the market has overly penalized Meta for these investments. Trading at a forward price-to-earnings (P/E) multiple of about 22x — below its five-year median — the stock presents an attractive risk-reward profile.

The JPMorgan expert emphasized that META's underlying ads business remains strong enough to absorb heavy infrastructure spending while building a formidable technological moat.

That said, Barchart currently holds an "8% SELL" opinion on Meta Platforms, indicating technical momentum is not particularly in its favor for the near term.

Meta Remains Buy-Rated Among Wall Street Firms

Investors should note that other Wall Street firms also agree with JPMorgan's bullish view on Meta stock.

According to Barchart, the consensus rating on META sits at "Strong Buy," with a mean price target set at $751, indicating potential for a nearly 15% rally from here.
