Oracle, Yapay Zeka Sözleşmelerine 30 Milyar $ Ekledi. Nvidia Yatırımcıları Fine Print'i Okumalı

Oracle Just Added $30 Billion in AI Contracts. Nvidia Investors Should Read the Fine Print

Oracle Corporation (NYSE:ORCL) and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) have given investors another huge AI demand signal, but the economics are more important than the headline.

On September 10, Reuters reported that Oracle booked more than $30 billion of new AI cloud contracts during its fiscal first quarter, helping lift remaining performance obligations to $664 billion. Quarterly revenue rose 30% year over year to $19.3 billion, while adjusted earnings of $1.92 per share also topped expectations. Oracle's negative free cash flow of $5.4 billion was painful, but substantially better than the $9.56 billion analysts expected.

Who Pays for the Buildout?

The most important detail for investors is how Oracle is funding the expansion. Capital expenditures reached $28.5 billion during the quarter, but Oracle received $11.36 billion of customer prepayments. Reuters also reported that most of the new AI contracts will not require proportional new capital spending because customers are using structures including prepayments and bring-your-own-hardware arrangements.

Oracle Corporation (NYSE:ORCL) has a stronger bull case. The company can potentially convert a huge backlog into cloud revenue without financing every GPU and data-center component itself. The bear case is that OCI remains an extraordinarily capital-intensive business, and Oracle still has to prove that its massive AI commitments can turn into durable free cash flow rather than simply larger depreciation bills.

Nvidia's Good News Has a Catch

NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) has a more nuanced read-through. Oracle's backlog confirms that demand for accelerated compute remains enormous. Nvidia benefits to the extent that enterprises and AI labs deploying capacity through Oracle continue to use its GPUs, regardless of whether Oracle or its customers ultimately finance the hardware. However, Oracle's disclosure also undermines a simplistic assumption that every dollar of OCI backlog creates an equivalent amount of incremental Oracle-funded Nvidia spending.

Institutional positioning is constructive for both stocks. Insider Monkey's hedge fund database shows that 119 hedge funds held Oracle at the end of Q2, up from 115 in Q1. Nvidia ownership rose to 285 funds from 275. Short sellers are less enthusiastic about fighting either trade. As of August 14, Oracle short interest stood at roughly 2.8% of the float, while Nvidia's was only about 1.2%.

Valuation remains the pressure point. Oracle is increasingly being valued as an AI infrastructure growth company rather than a mature database vendor, while Nvidia already discounts years of dominant accelerator economics. The difference is execution risk: Oracle still has to convert contracted demand into acceptable returns on invested capital, while Nvidia primarily has to defend its margins and ecosystem.

For investors choosing between the two, Nvidia remains the purer AI infrastructure exposure, but Oracle's customer-funded contract structures make its risk-reward materially more attractive than the raw capex numbers imply. I would hold Nvidia and selectively add Oracle on weakness rather than chase either stock solely on the backlog headline.

While we acknowledge the potential of ORCL and NVDA as investments, we believe certain other AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk.
