Specialty value retailer Five Below, Inc. (NASDAQ:FIVE)'s shares are up by more tha 60% over the past year. However, the stock closed lower on September 3rd, the day after the firm reported its fiscal second quarter earnings. Cramer discussed Five Below, Inc. (NASDAQ:FIVE) in his morning appearance on that day:

"I'll have to tell you, if you want to know what trading down looks like in a positive way, you just look at what Winnie Park has done at Five Below. Still one more amazing quater, now both Dolllar Tree and particularly Dollar Gen have had good numbers. But this is an extraordinary one. She went up from first cleaning up the shrink, to then working literally every foot of the store down to the back and has made it quite an amazing place. She's a very good executive. Unsung."

Since his comments, the shares are up by close to 3%. So looks like Cramer was right about the stock trading down. As a retailer, Five Below, Inc. (NASDAQ:FIVE)'s narrative is driven by its comparable sales and store count, along with the traditional income statement metrics such as revenue and operating income. In its second quarter, the firm's comparable sales grew by a whopping 14.1%. At the same time, the firm also raised its full year 2026 comparable sales guidance to 10% and 12% from the earlier 6% to 8%. Yet, the 14% figure marked a slowdown from Q1's 22.7% growth to indicate that Five Below, Inc. (NASDAQ:FIVE) might be experiencing a slowdown.

With Five Below, Inc. (NASDAQ:FIVE) depending on discretionary spending and the outsized comparable same store sales growth, the firm could struggle if the consumer continues to face the inflationary impact of higher gas prices. Additionally, these costs could also stress Five Below, Inc. (NASDAQ:FIVE)'s margins. In its second quarter, the firm's adjusted ex-tariff refund operating margin was 8.87%, which marked a substantial growth over the year ago figure of 5%. However, for the third quarter, Five Below, Inc. (NASDAQ:FIVE) guided operating margin to 6% indicates that the pressures might rise in the current quarter. For the full year, management expects operating margin to sit at 12.5% at the midpoint. Not to mention, the Q2 margin was lower than its peers.

What do the hedge funds think? Well, in Q2, 63 funds tracked by Insider Monkey had held a stake in Five Below, Inc. (NASDAQ:FIVE), which was lower than the 69 in Q1. Notable exits included Two Sigma Advisors and Maverick Capital. On the valuation front, the firm's forward P/E ratio of 24.69 is in line with TJX's 24.39 and slightly lower than ROST's 27.
