Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU) shares fell 5.2% in pre-market trading on Monday to $924.90 as semiconductor stocks declined amid renewed debate over the pace of artificial intelligence development and broader market concerns.
The shares were trading approximately 26% below their 52-week high of $1,255. Investors are also awaiting Micron's fiscal fourth-quarter results, scheduled for September 30, 2026.
Chip stocks broadly moved lower as investors assessed calls from technology executives for slower AI development and the potential implications for semiconductor and data-centre infrastructure spending.
Semiconductor Tariffs Remain in Focus
Investors are also monitoring the Trump administration's consideration of semiconductor tariffs, including the possibility that measures could extend to downstream products such as data-centre servers and laptops.
Technology companies have warned that additional tariffs could increase the cost of AI infrastructure.
Micron has also faced technical selling pressure in recent sessions, while a patent lawsuit filed by Netlist involving the company's DDR5 memory products has added a legal issue for investors to monitor.
Investors Await Micron Earnings
Market participants are assessing Micron ahead of its September 30 earnings report, while analyst price targets remain above the company's current share price on average, according to the supplied data.
Investors have also been monitoring Micron's capital expenditure as the memory industry increases investment to meet expected demand, including demand associated with AI infrastructure.
Other memory and semiconductor companies, including SanDisk and SK Hynix, have also declined in recent sessions.
Nasdaq and S&P 500 Trade Lower
Micron's pre-market decline came during a broader fall in US equities. The Nasdaq declined 1.8%, while the S&P 500 was down 0.75%.
Higher Treasury yields and oil prices were also among the factors being monitored by investors amid continued attention to the inflation and interest-rate outlook.
Micron's decline therefore came as investors assessed sector-wide semiconductor weakness alongside tariff uncertainty, the upcoming earnings report and company-specific legal developments.
