At $88.35, Skyworks Solutions (NASDAQ:SWKS) is a Hold. The stock has ripped past its consensus analyst price target of $68.35, and with a pending merger, a fresh capital allocation framework, and a mixed fundamental picture, the case for chasing here is as thin as the case for stepping in front of the momentum.
Skyworks designs RF and mobile chips, with approximately 57% of total revenue tied to its largest customer, Apple. The company is in the middle of transforming itself through a pending combination with Qorvo, a roughly $2B debt raise, a new $2B share buyback authorization, and the elimination of its quarterly dividend.
What brought the stock here is a violent re-rating. Shares jumped 19.36% in the last week alone and 26.79% over the past month, catching analyst targets flat-footed.
Why the Melt-Up Might Just Be Getting Started
Bulls argue the market is finally repricing Skyworks around a bigger, more diversified combined company. Management is "optimistic that we can close within the calendar year" on Qorvo, targeting $500 million or more of synergies and describing the deal as immediately accretive to non-GAAP EPS post-close.

The operating story is also inflecting. Fiscal Q3 revenue of $935 million and EPS of $1.08 beat consensus by 66.15%, the fifth straight beat. Broad Markets grew 8% year-over-year, with Wi-Fi, data center, and automotive collectively up 15% year-over-year. AI data center is tracking ahead of 50% annual growth. September-quarter guidance calls for revenue up to $1.06B and EPS of $1.27, with mobile expected to grow high-teens sequentially.
Why This Rally Looks Stretched
The bear case starts with valuation. Skyworks trades at a trailing P/E of 46, and the stock now sits well above its $68.35 analyst target. Fiscal 2027 consensus EPS has slipped to 4.9731 from 5.1460 ninety days ago, with 14 downward revisions in the last month.
The most recent quarter also showed cracks: non-GAAP gross margin compressed to 44.9% from 47.1%, operating income fell 56.15%, and free cash flow swung to -$16.7M. The CFO also sold 5,046 shares into the surge at $75.38.
Why Patience Beats a Reflex Trade Here
The Hold case rests on genuine two-sided uncertainty. The Qorvo close is a binary catalyst: approval unlocks synergies and a broader RF portfolio, while a delay or block leaves Skyworks carrying $2B of new debt against a business still shrinking. Revenue fell 3.13% year-over-year last quarter.
At the same time, the setup is improving. The Android design win worth >$1B revenue through 2030 and the seasonal mobile ramp support the September guide. The right posture is to watch quarterly gross margin, Qorvo regulatory milestones, and whether FY27 revisions turn positive.
What Price Action and Targets Actually Say
Skyworks currently trades at $88.35 against a consensus analyst target of $68.35, implying roughly 23% downside to target, not upside. Analyst targets are one data point, not a verdict, and the sharp rally has clearly outrun where the sell side last marked its models.
The ratings breakdown skews cautious: 1 Strong Buy, 1 Buy, 19 Hold, 1 Sell, and 1 Strong Sell. Forward P/E sits at 18.
Performance tells the momentum story bluntly. SWKS is up 42.18% year to date and 22.1% over one year, while the S&P 500 is up 12.08% year to date and 16.22% over one year.
Hold Verdict at $88.35
At $88.35, Skyworks is a Hold.
The setup is a rare split screen. The near-term catalysts (Qorvo close, seasonal mobile ramp, buyback authorization) are real, but the stock is already pricing them in and then some. Chasing at a 46 trailing P/E, with FY27 estimates drifting lower and the CFO trimming into strength, is asking momentum to do the heavy lifting.
A Buy would require Qorvo to close on schedule, FY27 revisions to reverse higher, and gross margin to stabilize above 45%. A Sell would require regulatory delay, a mobile air pocket at the largest customer, or clear evidence that Broad Markets growth is decelerating faster than the guide suggests.
The cost of patience is limited: dividend income is now zero, and the stock is stretched enough that a pullback toward the 50-day moving average of $65.97 would offer a materially better entry. The cost of acting prematurely, in either direction, is much higher.
When the market has already paid you for a re-rating that has not yet been earned, waiting for the next quarter is the trade.
