Quick Read

  • Rumble surged 10% after a report named Anthropic as its $13.7B compute customer, while CoreWeave and Nebius each fell 9%.

  • Dario Amodei's call to slow AI development pressured rented-compute peers, as QQQ dropped 2% while cloud ETF SKYY held nearly flat.

  • The unconfirmed deal reportedly grants Anthropic an option to buy 51 million Rumble shares at $0.01, while the Georgia data center remains under construction.

  • Just released. Our analysts combed the entire stock market and named the ten best stocks to buy right now, and Nebius Group didn't make the cut. Enter your email to see the names that beat NBIS. The report is free. Enter your email and see if any of your stocks made the cut.

Rumble (NASDAQ:RUM) stock is rising 10% to $7.87 in early Monday trading after a media report tied a marquee artificial intelligence (AI) customer to the six-year compute contract Rumble disclosed in an August securities filing. The pairing hasn't been confirmed by either party, but the reaction on Rumble stock has been immediate and directional. It's the kind of single-headline reprice a small-cap AI story rarely gets to enjoy on a red day for the trade.

The move is punishing the rented-compute peers on the same tape. CoreWeave (NASDAQ:CRWV) stock is down 9% to $81.25, and Nebius Group (NASDAQ:NBIS) stock is declining 9% to $205.28, extending recent softness in the group. The reported award reads as competitive share captured by Rumble at the peers' expense.

The framing check backs up that read. The First Trust Cloud Computing ETF (NASDAQ:SKYY) is down only 0.58%, while the Invesco QQQ Trust (NASDAQ:QQQ) is down 1.63%. Today's damage is largely concentrated in AI-compute names rather than spread across cloud software, which puts Rumble's rally in sharper relief against a group being marked down.

Anthropic Report Fuels the Rally

According to a media report, the customer behind Rumble's $13.7 billion six-year compute contract is AI lab Anthropic, and the reported arrangement lets Anthropic acquire up to 51 million Rumble shares at $0.01 each. Rumble left the customer unnamed when it made the disclosure in August, and both companies remain silent on the pairing this morning. The capacity is expected to come from a Maysville, Georgia data center that is still under construction.

Rumble entered the AI infrastructure business earlier this year by acquiring the German cloud provider Northern Data in an all-stock transaction, and it now runs its Rumble media platform alongside an AI infrastructure unit called Quake AI. Rumble also provides cloud hosting for Truth Social, the platform operated by Trump Media & Technology Group (NASDAQ:DJT). The Northern Data footprint is what gives Rumble the physical capacity story to sell to a frontier lab like Anthropic in the first place.

Two Sides of the Same Lab

The same private company sits on both sides of this morning's story. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published an essay over the weekend calling on frontier AI firms to slow the pace of model capability development, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman backed him. That's the pressure weighing on CoreWeave, Nebius and the wider rented-compute complex, even as the reported Anthropic contract is lifting Rumble.

The bull case for Rumble is that a six-year commitment of this size converts a speculative cloud pivot into contracted revenue, and a deep-in-the-money share option ties the customer's incentives directly to the equity. The bear case for Rumble is that the report is unconfirmed, the Georgia site is still being built, and the financing plan behind the buildout isn't yet visible. Rumble is also being repriced off a far smaller base than either CoreWeave or Nebius, which is why one media report can move it this much on a day peers are being sold.

Rumble's setup matters to the wider AI complex because it is the rare AI-linked name climbing on a morning the group is being sold. A contracted six-year customer with option economics attached looks structurally different from the open-ended demand narratives supporting the largest GPU cloud names, which trade on scale, backlog and continued capital-markets access (we profiled seven of the picks-and-shovels suppliers powering that buildout, from power to cooling, in a free AI infrastructure report). That contrast sits at the center of the CoreWeave and Nebius tape today, alongside the Amodei essay that has cooled sentiment across the trade.

What to Watch

Rumble holders can watch for confirmation from either party, disclosure of construction milestones at the Maysville facility, and any financing detail tied to the buildout, since all three will determine whether today's move is the start of a rerating or a headline-only reaction. Rumble is also folding Northern Data results into its consolidated reporting, and the shape of that combined view may set the next repricing window on the stock.

Rumble also carries clean cross-reads for the sector. An official acknowledgment of the counterparty would revalue what Northern Data brings to the combined business, and it may pressure GPU cloud incumbents to disclose fresh customer wins to defend valuations. Until then, headline sensitivity should govern the size of your Rumble exposure, and the gap between the reported strike and today's Rumble price is a reminder of how quickly the equity math changes if the option is ever exercised.
