The letter highlights that a significant portion of the shortfall occurred in April due to market dynamics and geopolitical events, with tech, particularly semiconductors, driving recent gains. Broyhill notes its lack of direct semiconductor exposure but acknowledges potential interest in the sector if opportunities arise, maintaining its investment philosophy focused on capital protection in fragile market conditions. "The Middleby Corporation (NASDAQ:MIDD) gained 31%. Commercial Foodservice grew organic revenue 8% as chains returned to growth and management raised full-year guidance by roughly 4%. More important was the structural progress: the Food Processing separation was confirmed at the May investor day (which our investment team attended) and completed on July 6th, creating Midera. Following the majority sale of the residential business earlier this year, what remains is a cleaner business with leverage approaching 2.5x."
