ABG Sundal Collier (ABG SC) and Nordnet have announced plans to set up a jointly owned private banking company.

A roll-out in Sweden is scheduled for 2027, pending regulatory clearance.

The planned business will combine ABGSC's advisory work, discretionary portfolio management and research operations with Nordnet's digital investment platform.

Ownership will be split evenly between the two groups.

The board will also be divided equally between them, with the addition of one independent director.

Jonas Ström, former chief executive of ABGSC, has been named chair.

At launch, it is expected to employ about 15 to 20 people.

Martin Ringberg, previously Nordnet's country manager in Sweden, will head the business as CEO.

The company will be formed around ABGSC's current private banking activities and expertise.

After the Swedish expansion planned for 2027, the partners expect to extend the model gradually across the Nordic region and in other countries where they already have operations.

Nordnet runs a Nordic savings and investment platform covering share dealing, funds, pensions and lending, alongside digital decision-support tools.

Nordnet CEO Rasmus Järborg said: "Nordnet aims to expand significantly within the segment of clients seeking advisory and portfolio management services. In ABGSC, we have found the perfect partner.

"The new partnership brings together the best of both worlds: Nordnet's leading digital platform and ABGSC's expertise in research and portfolio management. Together, we can create an offering that is considerably stronger than the sum of its parts."

ABGSC is an independent Nordic investment bank with an existing private banking arm focused on advisory services, discretionary management and research.

ABGSC interim CEO Kristian B. Fyksen said: "We have for some time considered how to unlock the full potential of our Private Banking franchise. Our strategy is to focus ABGSC's resources on areas where we have clear strengths. With Nordnet, we believe we have found the ideal partner to create a leading force in Nordic private banking. Together we are building a compelling platform for future growth, innovation, and long-term value creation."

"ABG Sundal Collier and Nordnet form private banking joint venture" was originally created and published by Private Banker International, a GlobalData owned brand.
