Atlanta, Georgia-based Delta Air Lines, Inc. (DAL) is one of the world's largest airlines. Valued at a market cap of $52.5 billion, it operates a vast domestic and international network serving more than 300 destinations across six continents, with major hubs including Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, and Seattle.

Companies worth $10 billion or more are typically classified as "large-cap stocks," and DAL fits the label perfectly, with its market cap exceeding this threshold, underscoring its size, influence, and dominance within the airline industry. Delta's competitive edge stems from its premium brand, reliable operations, and strong customer experience, allowing it to command higher fares and maintain solid profitability. Its reputation for reliability, on-time performance, and service also helps build customer loyalty and supports stronger pricing power.

Delta has hit some turbulence lately. The airline hit its 52-week high of $95.68 on July 2 and is currently 17.6% down from the peak. Shares of DAL have plunged 6.2% over the past three months, compared to the State Street Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund's (XLI) 5.5% dip.

Despite the recent pullback, Delta remains well ahead over longer horizons. The stock is up 13.7% year-to-date, edging past the XLI's 8.9% gain. Moreover, its 35% 52-week rally has far outpaced the ETF's 10.9% advance.

DAL has remained above its 200-day moving average for the past year, but its recent slide below the 50-day moving average since mid-August points to weakening near-term momentum.

Delta Air Lines has kept its engines running ahead of the broader market, powered by strong travel demand, rising premium revenue, and a diversified business model. Strong demand for premium cabins, corporate travel, and its loyalty program has helped Delta command higher fares, while its operational reliability and established brand continue to reinforce customer loyalty.

Adding another boost to that strategy, on Sept. 9, Delta and Hyatt Hotels Corporation (H) announced a long-term loyalty partnership connecting Delta SkyMiles with World of Hyatt. The collaboration aims to give members a more seamless rewards experience across flights and hotel stays, while deepening customer engagement for both brands.

Delta continues to pull ahead of American Airlines Group Inc. (AAL), which has declined 1.9% over the same period and fallen 16.7% year to date.

Wall Street is also backing Delta's momentum. The stock has a consensus rating of "Strong Buy" from the 24 analysts covering it, and the mean price target of $104.86 suggests a 32.9% premium to its current price levels.
