GE Vernova vs. Oklo: Which Industrials Stock Is a Better Buy in 2026?

As global power demand surges, investors face a choice between established infrastructure and emerging nuclear technology. Is GE Vernova (NYSE:GEV) or the pre-revenue innovator Oklo (NYSE:OKLO) the better buy for your portfolio?

GE Vernova provides the essential hardware and services that generate one quarter of the world's electricity. Oklo focuses on developing small fast-fission reactors to power data centers and industrial sites. Comparing these two involves weighing a profitable industry leader against a high-stakes bet on the future of carbon-free energy.

The case for GE Vernova

GE Vernova sells power generation equipment, grid solutions, and wind turbines to utilities and industrial giants. In its latest annual report, filed for 2025, the company highlighted its role in producing nearly 25% of global electricity.

In FY 2025, revenue reached $38.1 billion, representing nearly 8.9% growth over the previous year. The company reported net income of approximately $4.9 billion, a significant improvement from its net loss in 2023. This resulted in a net margin of roughly 12.8% for the fiscal year.

As of its December 2025 balance sheet, the debt-to-equity ratio was 0.0x, meaning the company carries no total debt relative to its equity. The current ratio of 1.0x indicates it has just enough short-term assets to cover its immediate liabilities. It generated free cash flow of $3.7 billion, which is the cash remaining after paying for capital expenditures. This level of cash generation supports its standing among industrial stocks.

The case for Oklo

Oklo is developing advanced nuclear reactors called Aurora powerhouses, which use fast-fission technology to provide clean energy. The company employs a build, own, and operate model, targeting customers like data centers and factories.

It has signed a 12 gigawatt agreement with Switch and a prepayment deal with Meta Platforms for power in Ohio. The company is currently managing nine active projects across states like Idaho, Texas, and Tennessee. These projects aim to serve diverse needs from data centers to defense facilities.

For FY 2025, Oklo reported revenue of $0.0, as its technology is still in the development and licensing phase. The company recorded a net loss of nearly $105.7 million during this period. Because there is no revenue, the net margin remains at 0% as the company invests in its future fleet.

Based on its December 2025 balance sheet, the debt-to-equity ratio was 0.0x, showing a lack of total debt. The current ratio is 49.1x, which compares short-term assets to liabilities and indicates high liquidity for its upcoming operations. Free cash flow was negative $115.4 million, reflecting the high costs of research and development before commercial operations begin.

Risk profile comparison

GE Vernova faces risks from its reliance on complex global supply chains for critical materials like semiconductor chips and specialty metals. Strategic transactions, including the acquisition of Prolec GE, could fail to realize expected benefits or distract management. The company must also navigate shifting governmental policies and the competitive pressure of the global energy transition. Product quality issues or major failures in critical infrastructure could lead to significant warranty costs or regulatory intervention.

Oklo has no commercial operating history and has yet to construct or operate its planned powerhouses. Success depends on obtaining complex licenses from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, which are not guaranteed on any specific schedule. The company also faces specialized fuel supply risks due to a lack of domestic high-assay low-enriched uranium. It requires significant additional capital to reach commercial viability, and there is no assurance that financing will be available on favorable terms.

Valuation comparison

GE Vernova looks cheaper as it has earnings, while Oklo lacks a Forward P/E or P/S ratio, which compare stock price to future earnings and sales.

Which stock would I buy in 2026?

I'd go with GE Vernova. Every utility and data center operator racing to meet surging electricity demand needs what GE Vernova builds. And after its most recent quarter, the case for it keeps getting stronger. Orders more than doubled year over year, the backlog hit a record level, and free cash flow guidance was raised dramatically for the full year. Gas turbines are booked out for years and electrification infrastructure orders keep climbing. This is a business operating at full stride.

Oklo is building toward something that could matter enormously in the long run. Advanced nuclear is gaining traction as a solution for AI data center energy needs, and its integrated model of building and operating its own reactors is differentiated. But Oklo is still years from generating its first dollar of commercial revenue, and the licensing process alone could stretch well into the next decade.

GE Vernova is already indispensable to the global power grid. Even the most patient investor is better served owning a business already delivering results than waiting on technology that has not yet received regulatory approval.
