Elon Musk's X adds Bitcoin trading links as crypto push expands

Elon Musk's X has widened its U.S. Cashtag system, connecting stock, ETF and cryptocurrency pages to five outside trading platforms and giving users a faster route from financial posts to actual order execution.

The announcement came on Sept. 22 in a post on X, unveiling the U.S. Cashtag Partner Program with Coinbase, Gemini, Kraken, Interactive Brokers and Moomoo.Users can now tap "Trade" after opening a supported ticker such as $BTC or $TSLA.

"X is the best source of financial news for traders and investors, and we've made it easier than ever to connect financial conversations with the ability to trade," the company's Business account said on X.

The actual transaction, however, takes place on the chosen partner's app or website, not on X itself.

How the trading flow works

According to information shared by X, once a user selects a Cashtag, X displays a live price chart alongside related posts before showing available trading partners. The user then signs into an existing account or creates one on that platform to complete the trade.

X does not process the transaction itself, execution, eligibility and account terms all sit with the partner exchange or brokerage.

Kraken also confirmed its role in a separate blog post. The company said its Cashtag integration covers nearly 2,500 assets. This spans both its centralized and decentralized offerings.

Interactive Brokers confirmed the launch too, in its own post. New eligible U.S. clients can get a $100 promotional credit. They just need to open and fund an account through the Cashtag flow.

The Cashtag rollout builds on an earlier X feature called Smart Cashtags. That feature tied ticker symbols to real-time charts and dedicated asset pages. The new rollout stays separate from X Money, the platform's payments product. X Money currently offers no direct link for funding trades.
