"Sell Rosh Hashanah, Buy Yom Kippur."
The traditional wisdom at Wall Street calls for selling before Rosh Hashanah and buying on Yom Kippur. It's an old adage which advises investors to strategize their moves around these Jewish holidays.
The strategy is to sell around the Jewish New Year of Rosh Hashanah and buy back roughly 10 days later, around Yom Kippur. The key is to time your trades, expecting a price drop during the period.

"Sell Rosh, Buy Yom" strategy could prove costly for Bitcoin traders this year
Though the "Sell Rosh, Buy Yom" strategy is popular among several traders, applying it could prove to be costly for Bitcoin traders in 2026.
This year, Bitcoin was trading in the $77,000-$79,000 price range around Rosh Hashanah (Sep. 11-13).
The leading cryptocurrency topped $86,000 today on the occasion of Yom Kippur.
The strategy expects that the asset's price should crash during the period between the two Jewish holidays, and recommends that the trader sells the top on Rosh and buys the dip on Yom.
But Bitcoin has a mind of its own, and it does not always move in step with Wall Street. The cryptocurrency hit its 8-month high above $86,000 today due to the short squeeze.

2025 presents a more complicated story
Last year, Bitcoin was trading in the $112,000-$115,000 range around Rosh Hashanah (Sep. 22-24) before it fell to $109,000 days later. But it rebounded to $120,000 around Yom Kippur (Oct. 1-2).
The cryptocurrency then hit its all-time high (ATH) of $126,080 on Oct. 6. But it again began crashing only days later on Oct. 10 following President Donald Trump's tariff threat to China.
Though Bitcoin has rebounded over the last few days, it is still trading 30% below its peak.
As per Decibel, Bitcoin was exchanging hands at $86,780 at the time of writing.
