An unexpected operational reality poured cold water on Logitech's (LOGI) latest earnings.
Logitech delivered a genuinely impressive fiscal first quarter on Tuesday afternoon — revenue is up 7% to $1.23 billion while non-GAAP operating income jumped 44% higher to $290 million. Demand is holding strong across gaming peripherals and computer accessories in a macro environment where many other consumer tech companies are struggling to grow at all.
Even if you strip out the $61 million tariff refund that gave the quarter a one-time boost, operating profit still grew 14% year over year and easily cleared Wall Street's bar.
"Our team really is an operations powerhouse that manages to get enough of everything to deliver on the demand. And you saw that in the quarter." Logitech CEO Hanneke Faber said on Yahoo Finance's Opening Bid (video above).
"We're super pleased to see the Americas accelerating growth. Americas were up 11%, which is great. We saw our gaming business really accelerate to plus 9% constant currency growth and video conferencing. And also mice just continue to grow very, very strongly."
But there is a but … and a big one.
Shares of Logitech dropped 5% on Wednesday after a surprise revenue warning.
A temporary shutdown at one of its semiconductor suppliers is going to take a $20 million bite out of second quarter sales and as much as $200 million out of third quarter sales. The third quarter is the one that feeds directly into the peak holiday shopping season and is traditionally the most important three months on Logitech's annual calendar.
Analysts are out defending the company, pointing to Logitech's strong execution versus a near-term supplier issue. But profit estimates are being dialed back.
"Maintain Buy on superior market positioning with competitive offerings, strong operational execution and ability to navigate demand volatility," Citi analyst Asiya Merchant said in a note.
While rising memory chip prices have increased component costs across the electronics industry, Logitech has largely offset those pressures through disciplined inventory management, pricing actions, and a premium product mix.
Investors have also embraced the company's position as a beneficiary of the AI era. Demand is growing for webcams, headsets, keyboards, mice, and video collaboration equipment as businesses upgrade workstations for AI-powered productivity tools.
Faber says Logitech will bounce back from navigating the unforeseen supplier incident.
"It's an important semiconductor supplier of ours. However, it's a temporary issue … Their fab had a serious issue. It is temporarily closed," she explained.
