Online brokerage Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ: $HOOD) has reported that its revenue generated from cryptocurrency trading fell 38% year-over-year in the second quarter.
The company known for its trading app reported crypto revenue of $100 million U.S. for the April through June quarter, down nearly 40% from $160 million U.S. a year earlier.
Management at Robinhood attributed the decline in cryptocurrency trading to continued struggles for leading digital assets such as Bitcoin (CRYPTO: $BTC).
More From Cryptoprowl:
Currently trading at $64,800 U.S., Bitcoin's price has been cut nearly in half from an all-time high of $126,000 U.S. reached last October.
However, despite the slump in crypto trading, Robinhood's financial results still managed to beat Wall Street forecasts on the top and bottom lines.
Robinhood reported earnings per share (EPS) of $0.62 U.S., which was well ahead of analysts' consensus forecast of $0.43 U.S.
Revenue in the period reached a record $1.31 billion U.S., topping the $1.29 billion U.S. forecast on Wall Street. Sales were up 32% from a year earlier.
Management said that the latest financial results got a boost from several new products launched during Q2, including new options trading features and a prediction market.
The prediction market, which was launched in time for the World Cup soccer tournament that started in June, provided a significant boost to Robinhood's financial results.
HOOD stock is up 2% following the company's latest earnings print. Over the past 12 months, the share price has declined 15% to trade at $92.02 U.S. per share.
