Cryptocurrency exchange Luno is cutting 20% of its global staff as it moves to restructure amid the ongoing decline in digital assets such as Bitcoin (CRYPTO: $BTC).
Luno Chief Executive Officer (CEO) James Lanigan announced the job cuts and restructuring, saying they are due to "market conditions."
However, Luno has not said publicly how many employees are affected by the changes.
More From Cryptoprowl:
Prices for Bitcoin, Ethereum (CRYPTO: $ETH), Solana (CRYPTO: $SOL), and other tokens have fallen steadily since last autumn and have been slow to recover.
In a statement, Luno said the restructuring will allow it to eventually expand its offerings to institutional investors, build up core infrastructure, and launch new products.
Luno is headquartered in London, England but started in South Africa and has operations throughout Asia. The crypto exchange claims to have 16 million customers worldwide.
Luno has a goal to provide non-US stablecoins across emerging markets.
Lastly, Luno said that it plans to use its institutional-settlement business to reduce the cost and complexity of moving money across borders via crypto rails.
Luno is the latest in a series of crypto exchanges and firms that have restructured amid the prolonged "crypto winter."
Many cryptocurrency companies are pivoting to more stable revenue streams from institutional clients, payments, financial infrastructure, and artificial intelligence (A.I.) data centres.
Bitcoin is trading at $63,500 U.S. on the afternoon of July 29.
