The ORLEN Group has acquired a 216MW hybrid renewable energy project in the municipality of Kazimierz Biskupi in the Greater Poland region.

The project will combine an 180MW solar photovoltaic (PV) farm and a 36MW wind farm, and has an expected annual electricity output of around 315GW-hours.

According to the company, this volume could supply the power needs of nearly 143,000 households.

The development will use a cable pooling system, allowing both the solar and wind installations to share grid connection infrastructure.

Polish entities ONDE and Neo Energy Group, which originally held the rights to build the project, have sold the associated special-purpose vehicles to ORLEN New Power, the ORLEN Group's onshore renewables division.

ONDE will serve as general contractor for the project, while Neo Energy Group will continue to manage construction.

Energa Green Development will be responsible for monitoring the construction on the ORLEN Group's behalf.

ORLEN management board president Ireneusz Fąfara said: "With this acquisition, we are adding a 216MW project to ORLEN's renewable energy portfolio. Combining solar and wind generation will allow it to make more efficient use of the available grid connection infrastructure.

"This is another tangible outcome of our investment programme. We are developing assets that support Poland's energy transition while engaging Polish companies and strengthening domestic expertise in the modern energy sector."

The wind component will consist of nine Vestas V136 turbines, each rated at 4MW.

Construction is expected to commence in the third quarter of 2026 (Q3 2026).

The project's first energisation is anticipated in early 2028, with commercial operations expected to start in Q2 of the same year.

The hybrid facility will operate alongside the ORLEN Group's similar Kleczew Solar & Wind project, situated approximately 8km away.

Together, these sites are set to form one of the largest onshore renewable clusters in Poland, with a total planned capacity of 485MW.

In June 2025, ORLEN Group secured 1.7 billion zlotys ($456m) in non-repayable funding under the National Recovery Plan for its Green H2 and Hydrogen Eagle hydrogen projects.

"ORLEN acquires 216MW hybrid energy project in Greater Poland" was originally created and published by Power Technology, a GlobalData owned brand.
