Pregis has acquired MP Global Packaging, a business unit of MP Global Products, in a move that adds to its fibre-based packaging operations.
Financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed.
According to Pregis, the deal complements its fibre packaging range and underpins further spending on sustainable materials and solutions for shipping goods that require temperature control.
MP Global Packaging runs two manufacturing sites in the US, located in New Albany, Indiana; and Norfolk, Nebraska, and has 110 employees.
Its main output is paper-based thermal packaging designed for temperature-sensitive deliveries, with curbside recyclability available in areas where collection infrastructure exists.
MP Global Packaging division lead Reid Borgman will join Pregis as vice-president and cold chain general manager.
Borgman said: "Becoming part of Pregis brings more resources and reach to the customers we serve and our employees. Together, we can advance innovation in fiber-based cold chain and expand our portfolio of solutions that deliver the performance, protection and sustainability the market relies on."
Pregis will keep supplying the unit's existing customers and invest in expanding the technology.
The acquired process produces packaging with thermal insulation characteristics using macerated cardboard.
Pregis regards the capability as an important route for fibre-based cold chain applications.
It said the business will continue operating from its current facilities.
The company will work with employees, customers and suppliers during the transition.
Pregis follows the pattern used for EverTec, a paper mailer business bought in 2020 and later expanded to annual output of more than one billion units across five plants.
Pregis chairman and CEO Kevin Baudhuin said: "At Pregis, our Purpose and 2K30 commitment challenges us to deliver packaging solutions that create value for our customers while advancing a more sustainable future.
"Sustainable, fibre-based materials are an increasingly important part of our portfolio, and cold chain packaging is a natural extension of that strategy. This acquisition brings proven technology, deep expertise, and an experienced team that will help accelerate our ability to scale paper-based thermal solutions and support customers in achieving their own sustainability goals."
"Pregis acquires MP Global Packaging" was originally created and published by Packaging Gateway, a GlobalData owned brand.
