With a market cap of $60 billion, Dominion Energy, Inc. (D) is a leading U.S. energy company headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, providing regulated electricity and natural gas services to millions of customers across Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The company is also a major developer of regulated offshore wind and solar power and is committed to delivering reliable, affordable, and increasingly clean energy.

Shares of the energy company have underperformed the broader market over the past 52 weeks. Dominion Energy stock has returned 11.8% over this time frame, while the broader S&P 500 Index ($SPX) has rallied 22.6%. However, shares of the company are up 16.5% on a YTD basis, outpacing SPX's 12.8% gain.

Dominion Energy reported better-than-expected Q2 2026 adjusted EPS of $0.79 and revenue increased to $4.48 billion on Jul. 31. The company also reported 22% growth in adjusted operating earnings from its Virginia segment to $670 million, driven by strong demand from data centers, with contracted data center capacity increasing to 53.8 GW as of July, up 5.3 GW from December. However, the stock fell marginally on that day as operating expenses rose to $4.15 billion from $2.71 billion a year earlier.

For the fiscal year ending in December 2026, analysts expect Dominion Energy's EPS to grow 4.4% year-over-year to $3.57. The company's earnings surprise history is promising. It beat the consensus estimates in each of the last four quarters.

Among the 17 analysts covering the stock, the consensus rating is a "Hold." That's based on two "Strong Buy" ratings and 15 "Holds."

This configuration is slightly less bullish than three months ago, with three "Strong Buy" ratings on the stock.

On Aug. 4, BMO Capital analyst James Thalacker maintained a "Hold" rating on Dominion Energy with a $70 price target.

The mean price target of $70.75 represents a 3.6% premium to D's current price levels. The Street-high price target of $79 suggests a 15.7% potential upside.
