$10,000 in XRP vs $10,000 in HYPE: Which Is Worth More by 2030?

Quick Read

  • HYPE has turned a $10,000 entry since its November 2024 launch into roughly $175,000 today, dwarfing XRP's $14,110 return since 2021.

  • XRP's $28 price target by 2030 could turn $10,000 into $271,800, but the Senate delayed the CLARITY Act vote until at least September.

  • HYPE generates fees from every trade that fund monthly buybacks, tying token growth to trading volume rather than legislative outcomes.

  • Two retirees, same $1 million, same 4% rule, buy one finished with $1.4 million, the other hit $0 in 12 years. Our free reader guide explains the flaw that separated them, and the income-first method built to avoid it.

A $10,000 investment in XRP on January 1 at $1.85 is now worth $5,568, marking a 44% decline over the last seven months. Over the same period, Hyperliquid performed better, turning a $10,000 investment at $25 into $22,400, which represents a 124% gain.

Today, XRP (CRYPTO:XRP) trades near $1.03, about 73% below its 2018 all-time high of $3.84, and Hyperliquid hovers around $56, roughly 27% below its all-time high of $76.85.

How a $10,000 Investment in XRP Performed Since 2021

BAZA Production / Shutterstock.com

XRP traded at $0.73 in August 2021, giving investors about 13,699 XRP tokens on a $10,000 entry position. Twelve days later, the price crossed the $1 mark, lifting the portfolio to $13,699. However, within a month, XRP slid back below $1, driven by uncertainties from the SEC's lawsuit against Ripple which kept institutional players on the sidelines, and traders who held from $0.73 to over $1 locking in profits rather than risk holding through a lawsuit with no clear end date.

The 4% Rule is Broken, Built On A World That No Longer Exists

Every retiree knows about the 4% rule, but it frames retirement as a slow liquidation and still causes retirees with seven-figure accounts to agonize over a dinner out.

There's a different way to run the math that makes more sense today. Build an income floor — dividends, interest, and Social Security that cover your essential bills every month — and you never have to sell shares into a down market just to pay them.

Our free reader guide, The 4% Rule Is Broken, walks through it in about 15 minutes. Access the report here.

XRP spent the next three years below $1 before rallying from $0.50 to $1.94 in November 2024, backed by U.S. President Donald Trump's re-election and an expectation that his administration would take a lighter regulatory position on crypto. Within weeks of his reelection, SEC Chair Gary Gensler announced he'd be stepping down. XRP holders saw the move as a potential end to Ripple's long battle with the SEC, pushing the initial $10,000 investment by 166% to $26,576.

The coin's rally continued into 2025, with the crypto reaching a cycle high of $3.65 in July 2025 and the investment rising to around $50,000. But a wave of sell-offs followed almost immediately, pulling the XRP price to around $3 before the October to December 2025 crypto market downturn took it further down to $1.85.

XRP has struggled to maintain a bullish trend seven months into 2026, with uncertainty over the CLARITY Act's Senate vote and broader risk-off conditions keeping investors cautious. The asset trades at $1.03, leaving the investment at $14,110.

How a $10,000 Investment in HYPE Performed Since Its Listing

Hyperliquid is a layer-1 blockchain built for perpetual futures and spot trading, and it listed its HYPE token on November 29, 2024 at $3.20, allowing a $10,000 investment to buy 3,125 tokens. Just 24 hours after listing, the crypto surged to $8.71, driving the investment up 172% to $27,219.

HYPE kept climbing through December and closed the year near $24, bringing the 3,125 HYPE value to $75,000, which represents a 7.5x return within one month. That performance meant HYPE had nearly tripled, in weeks, what XRP returned over three years.

Despite XRP's $3.65 cycle high in July 2025, HYPE stayed ahead. The token set a new all-time high of $49.86 in July 2025 and broke past that number again in September at $59.39, taking the $10,000 position to around $185,600.

However, the same downturn that hit XRP hit HYPE too. The token fell to around $25 by January 2026, cutting the position back to roughly $78,000, before recovering to another all-time high of $76.85 on June 16 and pushing the investment to over $240,000. Traders sitting on those gains since December 2024 then took profits, and sustained selling pressure pushed the price down to $56 and the investment to $175,000 today.

How Much Could $10,000 in XRP Today Be Worth by 2030?

Jo Panuwat D / Shutterstock.com

A $10,000 investment today buys about 9,709 XRP at current prices. With our own market forecast pointing to an XRP price of $5 and $28 by 2030, the investment could reach over $48,500 or more than $271,800 in a bullish scenario.

However, XRP reaching these price points depends on several key catalysts aligning over the next few years. The most immediate catalyst is the passage of the CLARITY Act, but the Senate will not vote on it until after its August recess. If voting happens after the Senate returns on September 14, XRP could reclaim $2 and potentially rally toward $3 as investor confidence improves.

Combined with Ripple capturing a major share of global financial transactions and continued ETF growth, these catalysts could push XRP toward Standard Chartered's bullish forecast of $28.

What a $10,000 Investment in HYPE Could Be Worth by 2030

If you invest $10,000 in HYPE today, you receive approximately 179 HYPE tokens. While HYPE is a relatively young crypto with room to grow, Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan has identified it as one of the top assets to watch for the next bull cycle, a notable pick given that Bitwise operates the largest U.S. spot XRP ETF.

A part of that optimism comes from Hyperliquid's upgrade involving major USDC ecosystem players like Coinbase and Circle. The upgrade plans to use yield from USDC reserves to fund monthly HYPE buybacks on the open market. As trading activity grows and more USDC flows into Hyperliquid, these buybacks could become larger, reducing the circulating supply while supporting demand over time.

Beyond the buyback mechanism, institutional adoption remains another key catalyst over the next decade. Although HYPE ETFs recorded their first month of outflows in July, a return to the strong inflows seen in May ($132.10M) and June ($161.05M) could renew buying pressure.

HYPE trades at $56 today, which puts its market value around $14 billion. We see HYPE reaching $150 to $250 by 2030, taking that market value to between $38 billion and $63 billion, and a strong bull market could push it as high as $400. A $10,000 investment today would be worth roughly $26,800 to $44,600 at those prices, or about $71,400 if HYPE hits $400.

Which Is the Better $10,000 Investment by 2030: XRP or HYPE?

XRP has the higher ceiling of the two, but reaching it depends on the CLARITY Act passing, and the Senate just left for its recess without voting on the bill. That pushes any decision on XRP's legal status to September at the earliest.

HYPE does not need a bill to grow. Hyperliquid already earns fees from every trade on the platform, and those fees fund the buybacks that take HYPE off the market each month, so demand for the token rises as trading volume rises.

If you want the bigger payoff and can wait for the CLARITY Act, XRP is the pick. If you want returns tied to a business that is already earning, HYPE is the safer choice.

Before Your Next Withdrawal, Run One Number ( It's Not The 4% Rule Everyone Knows)

Take your essential monthly expenses and subtract your guaranteed income — Social Security, plus any pension. What's left is your income gap, and how you close it determines whether retirement runs on share sales or on a paycheck your portfolio writes you every month. Our free reader guide, The 4% Rule Is Broken, shows exactly how to close that gap with portfolio income: a worked example (one retiree needed about $480,000 in income-producing assets to cover his essentials for good), an eight-point conversion checklist, and the 20-year numbers comparing dividends to withdrawals. It's free and takes about 15 minutes to read. Get the guide here before you take your next withdrawal.
