Airbnb (NASDAQ:ABNB) shares surged 17.43% on Friday, August 7, closing at $178.07 and reaching their highest level since April 2022.

The sharp rally followed the release of stronger-than-expected second-quarter results, with both revenue and earnings exceeding Wall Street forecasts and providing fresh momentum for the travel platform's shares.

Revenue climbed to $3.61 billion from $3.1 billion in the same period a year earlier, coming in ahead of the consensus estimate of $3.58 billion. Earnings per share reached $1.37, comfortably exceeding the $1.25 expected by analysts.

Strong rally pushes Airbnb beyond analyst target

While the quarterly performance provided a clear catalyst for the jump, the scale of Friday's advance may warrant some caution following such a rapid revaluation of the shares.

The average analyst price target for Airbnb currently stands at $172.17. Following Friday's rally, the closing price of $178.07 was approximately 3.32% above that level.

This means Airbnb shares have already moved beyond the average valuation anticipated by analysts, suggesting that some of the optimism generated by the stronger quarterly performance may now be reflected in the market price.

Although the earnings beat has strengthened investor sentiment towards Airbnb, the 17.43% single-session gain has also significantly narrowed the gap between the stock's previous valuation and analysts' expectations. With the shares now trading above the consensus target, investors may increasingly focus on whether future growth and earnings can justify the higher valuation.
