SBM Offshore selects Siemens Energy for Brazil Sergipe-Alagoas FPSOs

Siemens Energy has been chosen by SBM Offshore to provide power generation and gas compression systems for Petrobras' platforms in Brazil's Sergipe-Alagoas basin.

The equipment will be installed on floating production, storage and offloading vessels (FPSOs) serving two platforms, P-81 and P-87.

The Sergipe-Alagoas Deepwater basin, which contains Petrobras' SEAP I and SEAP II developments, is regarded as a major area for oil and natural gas output. The SEAP I project will use the P-81 FPSO, while the P-87 platform will be used for SEAP II.

Once operational, the two platforms are designed to produce up to 240,000 barrels of oil and process up to 22 million cubic metres of natural gas per day.

Both FPSOs will be delivered and operated by SBM Offshore. The vessels will connect to a dedicated gas export pipeline, which is intended to deliver gas from offshore sites to onshore facilities and the Brazilian market.

The Sergipe-Alagoas project aims to reduce reliance on flaring and reinjection by channelling associated gas onshore.

Initial production is anticipated to commence in 2030, with gas exports expected to begin in 2031.

Under the agreement, Siemens Energy will deliver a total of 16 modular systems, with eight units allocated to each platform.

The supply includes four gas turbine generators to produce electricity, three gas turbine-driven compressor trains for gas processing and export, and one electrically driven compressor for gas injection per FPSO.

Siemens Energy said that these systems will be tailored for offshore conditions where reliability and space efficiency are essential.

The company plans to assemble the majority of the equipment at its industrial facility in Santa Bárbara d'Oeste, located in southeastern Brazil.

The site is known for its offshore sector track record, having delivered more than 150 modular units for oil and gas projects since 2012.

The local assembly will also help meet national content requirements stipulated for the project.

The first consignment is scheduled for delivery to SBM Offshore by the end of 2027, with the remaining shipments to follow in 2028.
