OpenAI announces premium business pricing as it seeks to increase revenue ahead of IPO

OpenAI (OPAI.PVT) on Monday said it is launching premium seat options for ChatGPT Business. The move comes as the company looks to grow its revenue sources ahead of its planned initial public offering (IPO).

In a post on its website, OpenAI said the premium service is intended for power users and offers five times the usage of its standard ChatGPT Business seats.

The premium plan costs $125 per user per month, or $100 per user per month billed annually. The standard business plan costs $25 per user per month, or $20 on an annual billing cycle.

Anthropic (ANTH.PVT) charges the same prices for its Teams plans.

OpenAI continues to expand its services into the business and enterprise markets to keep pace with rival Anthropic and drive higher sales beyond its consumer product offerings.

While the company jumped out to an early lead in the AI race with its launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, Anthropic and Google (GOOG, GOOGL) have developed their own AI models and services that match and, in some instances, exceed OpenAI's capabilities.

Anthropic, in particular, has won over large corporate customers thanks to its Claude Code AI coding platform. That has helped push the company's post-money valuation to $965 billion as of May. OpenAI, which has its own Codex coding tool, said it had a post-money valuation of $852 billion as of March.

Both companies have also released productivity tools, with Anthropic debuting its Claude Cowork platform in January and OpenAI announcing ChatGPT Work in July.

The services are meant to boost sales for both companies as they plan to go public. The pair filed their confidential S-1 paperwork with the Securities and Exchange Commission in June.

Anthropic is widely expected to hold its IPO later this year, potentially as early as fall.

OpenAI was initially rumored to IPO this year as well, but in June, the New York Times reported that the company may delay its public offering until 2027.
