Bank of America launched a $250 billion initiative on Wednesday to finance U.S. infrastructure development through lending, investments, capital markets activity, and advisory services over an 18-month period ending July 4, 2027.

The Critical Infrastructure Finance Initiative will target three broad categories, the company said: digital infrastructure, spanning data centers, computing hardware, chips, telecommunications, and semiconductors; energy and power infrastructure, covering both conventional and renewable generation alongside storage and distribution; and core infrastructure, encompassing transportation, grid optimization, water systems, critical minerals, and mining.

According to the company, progress toward the $250 billion goal will be tracked using qualifying primary-market transactions — including lending, investing, capital markets activity, and advisory work — from January 1, 2026, through July 4, 2027, applying the same methodology the bank uses for its existing $1.5 trillion, 10-year sustainable finance goal. Bank of America's Global Capital Solutions and Global Infrastructure and Sustainable Finance teams will oversee the effort, drawing on all eight of the company's lines of business.

Bank of America Co-President Jim DeMare said in a statement that the initiative "reflects our confidence in the country's future and the investments that will shape it," adding that the infrastructure it helps finance will "drive growth, create jobs and define America's next chapter."

Karen Fang, Bank of America's global head of infrastructure and sustainable finance and co-head of global capital solutions, said in a statement that delivering infrastructure projects "requires integrated financing solutions spanning corporate and project-level capital in both public and private markets." She added that the bank is "focused on helping accelerate investment in infrastructure that drives economic growth and creates lasting value for communities."

Bank of America said the initiative has the potential to generate tens of thousands of positions spanning construction, manufacturing, technology, and the broader infrastructure workforce.

The announcement comes as Bank of America reported second-quarter net income of $9.1 billion, up 27% from a year earlier, driven by record equities trading revenue and a rebound in investment banking fees. Chief Executive Officer Brian Moynihan noted at the time that commercial borrowing had picked up and near-term pipelines remained strong.

The initiative also arrives as other major U.S. banks have announced similar programs, according to Reuters. Morgan Stanley announced plans to mobilize around $1.5 trillion over the coming decade toward technology and infrastructure financing, while JPMorgan Chase last year unveiled a $1.5 trillion program aimed at industries central to U.S. national security and economic resilience, including defense, energy, and advanced manufacturing.
