Taïm's New York City restaurants have been shut down over unpaid taxes.

Stores have been padlocked, with notices on their front doors, according to The Forward. The company is owned by Craveworthy Brands.

According to the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, Craveworthy Brands CEO Gregory Majewski is listed as a responsible person on 12 sales-and-use tax warrants tied to Taïm restaurant entities.

The warrants, all filed April 16, total approximately $1.35 million and cover locations across New York, including the West Village, Park Slope, Flatiron, Maiden Lane, Farmingdale, Plainview, and several others.

Majewski ranks No. 79 on New York's latest list of the state's 100 largest individual delinquent taxpayers.

Taïm's troubles come just over two years after Craveworthy acquired the fast casual as part of its purchase of Untamed Brands, a restaurant platform founded by former Chipotle executive Phil Petrilli.

Craveworthy announced the deal in May 2024, adding Taïm and Hot Chicken Takeover to a portfolio that already included Genghis Grill, BD's Mongolian Grill, Flat Top Grill, Dirty Dough, and several other concepts. Terms were not disclosed. Taïm had 13 locations at the time, with restaurants spread across New York, Washington, D.C., and Chicago.

Hot Chicken Takeover shuttered permanently last year.

Majewski described Taïm at the time of the acquisition as a concept with a long history, strong food, and potential to benefit from Craveworthy's restaurant platform. Petrilli similarly pointed to Craveworthy's resources and experience scaling emerging brands as reasons for optimism following the transaction.

Two years later, Taïm is dealing with a much different situation.

There is also a dispute over who is responsible for some of Taïm's financial obligations.

Petrilli is suing Majewski, alleging that the agreement governing Craveworthy's acquisition of Untamed Brands made Majewski and Craveworthy responsible for debts incurred by Taïm. According to The Forward's account of the lawsuit, Petrilli alleges Taïm restaurants owed $632,000 in unpaid taxes.

Prior to the tax-related closures, the Taïm location in Washington, D.C., shut down in July.

Chef Einat Admony opened the first restaurant in New York's West Village in 2005. Petrilli and other investors came aboard in 2018 and pushed the concept outside its original New York footprint. Admony has not been involved with Taïm since 2022, according to a representative who spoke with The Forward.
