AppLovin at 52-Week Low: Buy, Sell or Hold?

Quick Read

  • APP crashed 53% year-to-date to $310.95, yet Q2 delivered 53% revenue growth and 84% EBITDA margins with management blaming timing for the miss.

  • SPY held flat since APP's Q2 filing as APP dropped 24% in one week, now sitting 44% below Wall Street's $559 consensus target.

  • A director sold $82M and CEO Foroughi offloaded $15M above $473, flagging insider caution despite $3B in cash and a $1.8B buyback authorization.

  • It sounds nuts, but SoFi1 is giving new Active Invest users up to $3,000 in stock for a limited time, and all it takes is a $50 deposit to get started.2 See for yourself (Sponsor)

At $310.95, AppLovin (NASDAQ:APP) looks mispriced relative to fundamentals. The stock is fresh off a 52.71% year-to-date drawdown after a Q2 revenue miss, and the gap between fundamentals and price has widened to a level worth acting on.

24/7 Wall St.

AppLovin runs an AI-driven ad platform anchored by its AXON 2 engine that connects mobile gaming publishers and e-commerce advertisers with users at scale. After divesting its apps portfolio in 2025, the business is now a pure-play ad-tech company inside the Communication Services sector.

The stock ran to $745.61 at its 52-week high before a -19.66% single-day reaction to Q2 2026 earnings pushed shares to new lows. That reset is the backdrop for every argument below.

Why the Selloff Looks Overdone

Q2 2026 was fundamentally intact. Revenue rose 52.82% year over year to $1.92 billion, net income grew 54.54% to $1.27 billion, and adjusted EBITDA margin expanded to 84%. EPS of $3.76 marked the fourth consecutive GAAP EPS beat.

Q3 guidance calls for revenue of $2.055 billion to $2.085 billion, implying 46% to 48% year-over-year growth. CEO Adam Foroughi told analysts the Q2 shortfall was timing: "the next step-up in model performance landed just after quarter end". Consumer spend finished 28% above Q4 2025 levels in a seasonally slow quarter.

Forward P/E is 21x on a business generating $863 million in quarterly free cash flow, with $3.05 billion in cash and net leverage near 0.1x. The company repurchased $551.3 million of stock in the quarter.

Why the Bears Have a Point

The revenue miss reflects model-improvement lumpiness that management cannot promise to smooth out. Foroughi conceded "there's no guarantee that we're always going to have lifts in every single period of three months". If AXON's model cadence slows, the AI-driven growth premium erodes fast.

Insiders have been selling aggressively. Director Eduardo Vivas sold over $82 million in June, and CEO Foroughi offloaded roughly $14.6 million at prices between $473 and $516. Beta of 2.53 and a still-rich P/S of 15.68 mean further disappointment gets punished hard.

Why Patience Has Appeal

The hold case rests on momentum. Shares are down 37.14% in the last month and 24.07% in the last week, and the price sits well below the 200-day moving average of $512.80. Waiting for a base to form before Q3 earnings would let investors confirm the model cadence is back on track.

What the Numbers Actually Say

APP trades at $310.95 against a Wall Street consensus target of $559, implying meaningful upside if analysts prove right. Coverage skews sharply bullish: 7 Strong Buy, 22 Buy, 3 Hold, 0 Sell ratings.

Shares are down 52.71% year to date and 31.55% over the past year, while the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSEARCA:SPY) is up 0.52% since APP's Q2 filing. Multiples now sit at 26x trailing and 21x forward earnings on a business posting 54.54% net income growth.

The Verdict on AppLovin at $310.95

At $310.95, the risk/reward on AppLovin skews favorable based on the data below.

The path to appreciation runs through Q3. Management guided to 46% to 48% revenue growth and 48% to 50% adjusted EBITDA growth, and CEO commentary suggests the model uplift missing in Q2 has already landed. A beat-and-raise earnings report, layered on top of the resolved SEC inquiry, removes the two overhangs that pushed the stock here.

Risk/reward looks skewed. Even the bear case projects appreciation from these levels, and the balance sheet supports continued buybacks against a $1.8 billion remaining authorization. Insider selling occurred materially above current prices, which provides context on prior valuation rather than a live sell signal.

The thesis breaks if Q3 revenue lands below the low end of guidance or if adjusted EBITDA margin compresses meaningfully below the 83% target. Either would confirm that AXON's compounding advantage is stalling rather than merely pausing. Watch consumer vertical growth and model-uplift cadence quarter by quarter.

Buying a category-leading, cash-generative ad-tech platform at 21x forward earnings after a fundamentally intact quarter is the setup the bulls are underwriting at this price.
