Microsoft (MSFT) shares are inching higher on Aug. 13 after JPMorgan lifted its price target on the tech behemoth to $625, indicating potential upside of more than 25% through the end of 2027. Analyst Samik Chatterjee believes artificial intelligence (AI) tailwinds will drive MSFT materially higher from here.

His bullish call is particularly significant given Microsoft stock has delivered muted performance in 2026, currently hovering around the same price at which it started this year.

JPMorgan's Bullish View on Microsoft Stock

Behind Chatterjee's decision to raise his price target is rapid adoption of Microsoft 365 Copilot. In his report, the analyst said MSFT is finding success in converting strong enterprise demand into substantial recurring software revenue.

According to Chatterjee, Copilot could generate between $24 billion and $41 billion in incremental sales, roughly 7x his previous baseline estimate.

Importantly, M365 cloud products serve as internal demand drivers for Microsoft's proprietary AI infrastructure, enabling the multinational to monetize its investments via "high-margin application software" rather than relying solely on seat licensing.

Note that MSFT shares also currently pay a dividend yield of 0.74%.

Azure Growth Makes MSFT Shares Attractive

Chatterjee recommends buying Microsoft shares also because future monetization opportunities — such as AI credit sales — offer additional revenue upside as enterprise clients expand their use of generative AI tools.

Beyond enterprise software, the JPM analyst pointed to robust performance in MSFT's cloud unit, on the back of global AI buildouts.

Consistent execution and rising capital spending are translating directly into higher Azure growth rates, with margin pressures in the Intelligent Cloud division also beginning to stabilize, he added.

Crucially, Barchart also currently holds a "56% BUY" opinion on Microsoft, indicating technical momentum also currently favors continued upside through the remainder of 2026.

What's the Consensus Rating on Microsoft

Other Wall Street analysts seem to agree with Chatterjee's constructive view on MSFT stock as well.

According to Barchart, the consensus rating on Microsoft sits at "Strong Buy," with the mean price target of $552 indicating the titan could soar another 12% over the next 12 months.
