Geely Automobile has confirmed a wide-ranging overhaul of its board structure, with founder Li Shu Fu resigning as chairman and executive director, and Gan Jia Yue taking over as CEO.
The changes take effect from today (18 August 2026) and are described by the company as part of its long-term succession planning.
Gui Sheng Yue has relinquished the CEO position and taken up the post of vice chairman, while remaining on the board as an executive director.
Separately, Li Dong Hui, Daniel (Daniel Li) has resigned from his role as vice chairman, though he continues to work as an executive director.
The board stated that his departure from the vice chairman position does not raise any matters requiring shareholder attention.
According to the group, Li has resigned to "devote more time to his other business commitments and to facilitate the implementation of the company's long-term succession planning".
Li set up Geely in 1986 in Taizhou, Zhejiang, China. The group started out as a manufacturer of refrigerator parts before eventually expanding into motorcycles and automobiles.
An Cong Hui, who previously served as an executive director, has been named the company's new chairman.
The board stated that An's appointment reflects an orderly succession process, consistent with the long-term succession planning outlined in the company's announcement dated 5 June 2026.
The company said in a statement: "This leadership transition also aims to further enhance the professional management authorisation mechanism and optimise the company's corporate governance structure."
As a mark of his contribution, Li has been given the title of honorary chairman for life, a designation that holds no formal governance authority.
The statement further noted: "Mr. Li has confirmed that he has no disagreement with the board and there are no matters relating to his resignation that need to be brought to the attention of the shareholders of the company."
Li continues to hold a major and controlling stake in the company, with no indication of any intention to reduce his shareholding.
Given An's ties to Geely's controlling shareholder, the board, including its independent non-executive members, said it would continue to monitor for any potential conflicts of interest, in accordance with Hong Kong Stock Exchange listing rules and the company's internal governance policies.
