Famed investor Stanley Druckenmiller has taken a shine to cryptocurrency miners turned artificial intelligence (A.I.) data centre operators.
Through his investment firm, Duquesne Family Office, Druckenmiller opened new positions during the second quarter in stocks of leading data centre operators.
Druckenmiller's new positions include Hut 8 (NASDAQ: $HUT), Riot Platforms (NASDAQ: $RIOT), and Bitdeer Technologies (NASDAQ: $BTDR).
More From Cryptoprowl:
Druckenmiller's biggest bet in the A.I. data centre space is Bitdeer (NASDAQ: $BTDR), where he purchased 3.1 million shares worth $38 million U.S. currently.
The famed investor bought 314,000 shares of Hut 8 stock and 755,000 shares of Riot Platforms stock in the April through June period.
All of the positions in the data centre operators were new and opened in the second quarter, according to a regulatory filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Stanley Druckenmiller is best known for helping investor George Soros execute his lucrative bet against the British pound in 1992, a trade that netted a profit of $1 billion U.S.
The investor appears to have shaken up his bets on the A.I. trade during the quarter, liquidating his positions in high-flying semiconductor names and buying data centre operators.
Druckenmiller sold his entire positions in chipmakers Broadcom (NASDAQ: $AVGO), Intel (NASDAQ: $INTC), and Micron Technology (NASDAQ: $MU) during Q2.
Instead, he plowed money into the stocks of HUT, RIOT and BTDR.
The stock of Bitdeer Technologies is down 20% this year and trading at $9.24 U.S. per share on Aug. 17.
