Bitcoin’s Surge Leaves Strategy With $1.4 Billion Profit

The recent surge in Bitcoin's (CRYPTO: $BTC) price has given Strategy (NASDAQ: $MSTR) a $1.4 billion U.S. profit on its cryptocurrency holdings.
Bitcoin was trading at $77,300 U.S. early on Aug. 21, up 23% from $62,800 U.S. at the start of the week.
The price of BTC has taken off after the U.S. Treasury intervened in the bond market to lower yields and U.S. President Donald Trump called on Congress to pass the Clarity Act legislation.

The sudden and sharp rally has been good news for Strategy, which is a serial cryptocurrency acquirer and the largest corporate owner of Bitcoin in the world.
After being in the red for months, Strategy is back in profit on its Bitcoin holdings, with an unrealized gain of $1.4 billion U.S., or 2.4%.
The company owns 840,447 Bitcoin, which it acquired at an average price of $75,385 U.S. That's below BTC's current price of $77,300 U.S.
Strategy had been sitting on an unrealized loss for much of this year as the price of the largest cryptocurrency fell 54% from its October 2025 all-time high of just over $126,000 U.S.
When Bitcoin hit its low for the year of $58,000 U.S. at the end of June, Strategy was sitting on an unrealized loss of $13 billion U.S.
The company sold nearly 7,000 Bitcoin at a loss in recent months as it sought to replenish its cash reserves and raise money to cover the dividend on its preferred stock (NASDAQ: $STRC).
It remains to be seen what Strategy will do now that its back in the black on its Bitcoin holdings. At the current price of $77,300 U.S., Strategy's BTC holdings are worth $64.97 billion U.S.
